MEMPHI
When Steven Welch of The Memphi Krewe approached me to create a new logo for his upcoming coronation, I proudly accepted the job as this was a historic civic and philanthropic organization. In fact, The Mystic Society of the Memphi, founded in 1872, sponsored the original Memphis Mardi Gras celebrations of the 1800’s. Those celebrations later became Cotton Carnival and now known as Carnival Memphis. Mr. Welch wanted rams to be present in the design, with the Memphi shield as the focal point. I got to work, sketching the bold animal donning a crown since, after all, this was a coronation. Drawing inspiration from medieval depictions of rams, I landed on this bold crest proudly declaring a rich history of pageantry and community engagement.
